DisConnect is a complete order & inventory management solution for music sellers. Sellers who are selling on Discogs use it to sell on other channels and those who sell on other channels use DisConnect to sell on Discogs. In this blog, we will be exploring some of the best practices that sellers can perform when syncing products from either direction.
Syncing your products from Discogs to a target channel:
Music sellers tend to sync products from Discogs to a target platform be it an Ecommerce platform like Shopify, WooCommerce, etc or a Point of Sale like Square, Lightspeed etc. So here are some of the best practices you should be taking care of when doing this using DisConnect.
BP 1: Ease of Navigation & Access
For customers & potential leads who visit your website, having a proper well planned website with proper menu’s (categories) and tags will definitely improve the experience your customers have on your website.
So set up your categories & tags on your ecommerce platform or point of sale first and then set them up in the category mapping & field mapping section on DisConnect so that your products fall into the right corresponding categories and are tagged with their corresponding tags.
BP 2: Consider Repricing your ecommerce channel’s products
Assume you’re looking to run a special promotion and drive more traffic to your channel over Discogs and you’re looking to lower your pricing for the products on your ecommerce channel or POS. Or let’s look at it from the other side by assuming you’re planning to make a higher revenue on your ecommerce channel or POS. In either way, you can get this done with DisConnect. Here’s how.
DisConenct offers you “Repricing” which will help you re-price your products on your target ecommerce or POS channels when you sync them from Discogs. Based on your needs, you can either choose to increase or decrease the pricing of your products based on either a fixed pricing change or a change based on a percentage basis.
BP 3: Automate the search optimization of your listings
Having an ecommerce platform will not really add value to you as a music seller if there are not many customers visiting your website. To drive traffic to your page, every single product on your store should be search optimized so that potential customers can find them on search engines.
DisConnect completely automates this for you by allowing you to completely customize the SEO title & the meta description for every product by using data from Discogs in the form of shortcodes to ensure all your products are completely search optimized when they’re created on your target channel.
BP 4: Add videos to your listings to drive more conversion
It’s an old saying that a picture is worth those words & for videos, it’s even more. Having videos on your product listings page has greatly increased the conversion especially when customers hear actual tracks of the product they’re planning to purchase.
This can be achieved via DisConnect during the sync by using the release data of that particular product on Discogs. As a user, all that needs to be done is to use the video shortcode in the fieldmapping page in the description field and if needed, determine the amount of videos you’d like to sync and the resolution of the videos as well.
BP 5: Take control on how your products look post sale
Ecommerce platforms give you two options on what happens to your product post a sale. You can remove them from your live website when your sold product has no longer any quantity by marking the product as “Draft” or have the product still appear on your website as “out of stock”.
Each case has it’s own advantage by no longer showing it to your customers, you are not crowding your website with products customers can no longer order as there is no stock available or by showing them on your website as out of stock, customers who really need it can request for a restock & then buy the product. This can be completely automated on DisConnect choosing if you’d like to like to keep your products on “Draft” or otherwise.
Syncing your products from a target channel to Discogs:
Music sellers tend to sync products from a target platform be it an Ecommerce platform like Shopify, WooCommerce, etc or a Point of Sale like Square, Lightspeed etc to Discogs. So here are some of the best practices you should be taking care of when doing this using DisConnect.
BP 1: Decide on which product category(ies) you’d like to sync to Discogs
Most sellers sell various music merchandise on their ecommerce platform or POS. Things like turntables, T-shirts etc along with their CD’s, Records, Cassettes etc. However, when we sync over to Discogs, we need to ensure we only sync over the music formats. So as a seller, it would be ideal to have the music created with distinct categories, product types or tags depending upon the platform and then choosing to sync that particular platform(s) on DisConnect.
BP 2: Ensure you add your newer products & additional stock under the same categories
In the previous Best Pratices point, you have created proper categories, tags or product types. In order to seamlessly create these products on Discogs using a sync, it is essential to create the new products under or with the same category, product type or tag so the products will automatically be synced to Discogs as they’re already setup in DisConnect in the previous step.
BP 3: Please customers by listing on Discogs with Proper Condition Mappings
Creating products on Discogs mandates you to use to create products with a media condition. As this is not a requirement on your personal ecommerce platforms or POS, DisConnect helps you map products with a default media & sleeve condition for your products when you sync them over to Discogs. This will ensure your product gets created on Discogs successfully.
BP 4: Consider Repricing your ecommerce channel’s products
If you’re planning to expand your online presence by selling on Discogs in addition to your ecommerce or POS or say you want to bulk update your prices on Discogs to increase your profit margins. You can do both with DisConnect.
DisConenct offers you “Repricing” which will help you re-price your products on Discogs when you sync them from ecommerce or POS. Based on your needs, you can either choose to increase or decrease the pricing of your products based on either a fixed pricing change or a change based on a percentage basis.
BP 5: Choose to sync your products to Discogs in Draft status, if needed
If you’re a new seller who’s planning to sell on Discogs for the first time and are ready to get started by syncing all your products from your current channel but not ready yet to sell them on Discogs. In this case, you can use DisConnect’s option to sync your products to Discogs as “Draft” and then change them over to “For Sale” when you’re ready to sell them on Discogs.
